Available for Adoption

Buffy
Buffy is a 17yo bay standardbred mare, standing at approximately 15.2-15.3hh, who we have had in our care on and off for approximately 7 years. She was a trotter in her youth, and as far as we know she retired sound. In previous years she was ridden lightly on the road and around Fairview Lodge at a walk and a trot, but doesn’t
have an established canter under saddle. We would prefer she be rehomed as a companion as she is getting older and prefers to spend her time with the other horses in the paddock. She is high in the pecking order when housed with other horses, but overall is a well-mannered mare who is great for the farrier, easy to transport in the float and easy to catch with food from the paddock. She has been housed with another standardbred mare, Destiny, for the last 12+ months and they really enjoy each other’s company – a reduced adoption rate can be negotiated if
interested in taking both mares.

Destiny
Destiny is an 8yo bay standardbred mare, standing at approximately 15hh, who came into our care with another horse that has since been rehomed. She was a trotter in her youth, and as far as we know she retired sound. She has integrated into our herd well and really enjoys the company of other horses - she is also high in the
pecking order. Her previous home noted that she was a ridden horse, but she has not been trialled under saddle while in our care. Given her age, she would be suitable as a project horse for someone who has the time to assess her previous knowledge and build her up from there. She has good ground manners, is good for the farrier, can be transported on the float, easy to catch in the paddock with good, and great on the lunge line. She has been housed with another standardbred mare, Buffy, for the last 12+ months and they really enjoy each other’s company – a reduced adoption rate can be negotiated if interested in taking both mares.

Bundy
Bundy is an 18yo bay thoroughbred gelding, standing at approximately 15.3hh, who came into our care approximately 12 months ago. He was raced as a young gelding, and as far as we know he retired sound. He is an absolute sweetheart, the first to catch you in the paddock, and loves a good scratch or a carrot. His ground manners are impeccable and he loves lunging and trying out new groundwork exercises (any excuse to spend time with more humans). When re-introduced to the saddle he was fine being tacked up, but showed obvious signs of distress when it came to mounting. Therefore, we would prefer to find him a companion only home to enjoy the rest of his years. He is an easy-keeper and gets along well with the other horses – generally bottom of the pecking order depending on who he is housed with. A reduced adoption rate will be applied for Bundy due to his age and companion-only status.

Bessie
Bessie is a 16yo chestnut thoroughbred mare, standing at approximately 16.1-16.2hh, who came back into our care approximately 12 months ago. She was raced and retired sound in her youth. In her previous home she was ridden in low-level eventing competitions and was in heavy work with no issues. She has not been trialled under saddle while in our care due to the lack of available volunteers on our team, but has been lunged and noted to have exceptional movement on the ground. She is top of the pecking order in the paddock, but her ground manners are good when handled by our team. She has a big personality and would be suited to an experienced home where she could be brought back into work or kept as a beautiful paddock ornament. We are happy to offer a lease-to-adopt arrangement to an interested party to assess whether she is suitable to be a ridden horse.

Velvet
Velvet is a 9yo bay thoroughbred mare, standing at approximately 16hh, who came into our care approximately 2 years ago. She was raced as a youngster and retired sound. She sustained a leg injury in the paddock in March 2025 and still bears the scar from this incident – she hasn’t been brought back into work since then but is
100% paddock sound and cleared by our vet. In her previous home she was in regular ridden work and has been over small jumps + very low-level dressage for fun. She has great ground manners but can be difficult to catch in the paddock without food and patience, as she was being brought in every day for bandage changes and vet visits when her leg was at its worst. She is in the middle of the pecking order and gets along well with most horses she’s been housed with. Due to her leg injury, we are happy to offer either a lease-to adopt arrangement or a reduced adoption fee.
